CSC stickers

I was commissioned by the Chinese Student Coalition at MSU to design stickers that represented my childhood in a Chinese family for AAPI Awareness Month.

WELCOME HOME

When I was in China, whenever we saw friends or family, especially around lunch or dinner time, we’ll always greet each other with  “你吃饭了吗?” which means, "Have you eaten?" In the U.S. people would say “hi, how are you?” In China, asking if you’ve already eaten is synonymous with asking how you are. We all know food is really important in Chinese culture. It's how we show affection and that we care to our loved ones. Some of my greatest memories in China is my grandma making my childhood foods that no one else could recreate. The taste is so nostalgic and delicious I I feel like I'm a child again, and I could go the rest of my life only eating those dishes.

FRUIT IS OUR LOVE LANGUAGE

Whenever I’m not feeling well or I’m too busy with work to eat, I can always count on my mom to peel or cut me some fruit. Whether it’s a kiwi, an apple, or oranges, I know it’s her way of saying “I care about you, I love you.” The “吃多一点” refers to what my parents would always say to me whenever we’re eating anything. They’ll always tell me to eat more even when I’m completely full or they’ll take from their own plate and pile more food onto mine even when I still haven’t finished eating. This is our love language!
